Day Three - Sunday - Morning Shift
After an early Morning wake up, and a beautiful sunsrise, we arrived at the GKTW village for a third day of shifts. This morning many of us were working in the cafe. The busers especially had many families make it apparent how greatful they were to have us helping out. Over at the waffle station, the kids were super excited to make waffle sundaes, and try other foods that they wouldn’t necessarily have for breakfast, like ice cream with soda! Throughout the whole shift, many of the families and staff members showed their gratitude towards us and asked about who we were. Specifically a family asked how to create their own make-A-wish club at home. Also we had a few students make special connections with the families. Whether it be taking a picture, or exchanging phone numbers, the impact of the connections is endless.
Over in the castle, there were the stars of every wish child who has visited the village since the castle was built. There are currently almost 200,000 stars hanging. Seven wish kids came in to make their star and Twelve families came in to find their star. Nine of these families were on their wish trip and made their star earlier this week and they were returning to see where Stellar the Star Fairy put it. Three of the families were “welcome back” families who had a prior wish trip and were back just for a visit. Two of the former wish kids were there to find the star they had made years ago, but sadly one family returned to find the star of their son who is no longer with them. While they were so sad to be there without him, they talked about what the village and his trip meant to them when they came. In the castle we also did some magic to make the wish kids and their siblings pillows appear from Buttons the Rabbit. We had so much fun getting to know the Wish kids, their siblings, and their families. All of their stories were amazing, and the parents were so open to sharing. All of us are so grateful to be a part of the families trips and we are super excited for our last few shifts coming up!
